2025 Defensible Space Grant Program
Program Overview:
The Monterey Firefighters Community Foundation Defensible Space Grant Program, in partnership with P.M. Landscaping, will inject charitable funds back into the community to improve wildfire prevention and safety for residents who are found to have defensible space violations and are in need of assistance to improve the overall wildfire safety of their property.
This grant program is designed to provide financial assistance to help seniors, veterans, disabled individuals and low-income households make their homes more resilient to wildfires by performing defensible space work.
Qualification Criteria
Residents must reside within the response area of the Monterey Fire Department. (cities of Monterey, Pacific Grove, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Sand City, Monterey Regional Airport, Naval Postgraduate School, La Mesa Village) and,
Monterey Fire Department inspectors must identify defensible space violation(s) on the property and find that the property owner demonstrates an inability to perform the recommended defensible space improvements.

Recipients Receive:
The MFCF Defensible Space Grant will directly fund safety improvements performed by P.M. Landscaping Services.
A property cannot receive more than one grant award per calendar year.
